Volunteer with L’Arche Toronto

As a volunteer, you will be welcomed into a community of people with and without disabilities from diverse cultures. We strive to celebrate each person’s gift and build friendships of mutual respect and care. The reciprocal friendships that are built at L’Arche can be life-changing. Many of our volunteers develop strong and lasting friendships and become valued members of the L’Arche Toronto community.

We ask that volunteers commit to one year with L’Arche Toronto.

Ways to volunteer

• Home Volunteer Become a regular visitor to one of our five homes. Help prepare a meal and stay for supper or visit the home for a weekly tea and enjoy a time of connection. The typical time commitment is 2- 3 hrs weekly.
• Music Volunteer Do you play a musical instrument? We love music at L’Arche Toronto. We are looking for volunteers to help lead music in our homes, at Community Connections, or at special events. The time commitment will vary.
• Community Connections Volunteer On two Mondays each month from 4:30 to 5:30, L’Arche Toronto gathers to nurture relationships, belonging, and ownership of our mission. Help with set up, facilitation, and clean up. The time commitment is 4:00 to 6:00 pm twice monthly.
• Community Meal Volunteer On the last Wednesday of each month from 4:30-6:00, L’Arche Toronto gathers for a community meal. Help prepare a meal or help with set up, serving, and clean up. And join us for the meal. The time commitment is two hours one-time monthly.
• Swimming Volunteer Every Wednesday, three women from L’Arche Toronto go swimming as part of their day program. We are looking for a volunteer from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each week to support the program alongside the assistants, offer support in the pool, and have lunch with the ladies.
• Day Program Volunteer Every Friday from 10:00 am to 3:00 p.m., core members gather for activities of shared interest like crafts and games. We are looking for volunteers to support the program alongside the assistants for the morning, afternoon, or both for two to five hours per week.
• Card Club Volunteer One Sunday each month from 2 to 4 p.m., community members gather to make greeting cards for people who are on our hearts and minds. We are looking for volunteers from 1:30 to 4:30 once a month to help with set-up, clean-up, and make greeting cards along with other community members.
• Special Events Volunteer We host various events throughout the year, like an ice cream social, Friends and Family Picnic, Harvest Howl, and Carol Service. We need volunteers to set up and clean up, prepare and serve food, etc. Commitment varies by event.
• Garden Volunteer Do you have a green thumb and enjoy gardening? Garden with Core members. Work with assistants and core members to help maintain and grow our gardens.
